ILIGAN CITY (PIA)--The government here has maintained the extension and observance of further support and aid to the elderlies as part of their privileges and benefits granted by law.
In a recent episode of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)-Lanao del Norte's Heading Online options for Protecting Consumers and Enabling Businesses (HOPE) Webinar Series, City Social Welfare and Development (CSWD) Social Welfare Officer II Melody Camilo discussed that apart from the discounts, senior citizens are also entitled to assistance such as of information and matching services for potential employment services as they believe that other old aged are still physically qualified to work.
Further, the government offers free livelihood training programs and access to formal and non-formal education provided by the Department of Education (DepEd), Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), and Department of Science and Technology - Technology Resource Center (DOST-TRC).
On the other hand, there is also an inclusion of special needs of the senior citizens in the national shelter program which gave rise to the establishment of housing units for them, and the strict implementation of courtesy space and seats for their exclusive use in all transport systems.
The government likewise gives a social pension worth P500 per month for indigent senior citizens.
With the retention of the aid that is rightfully bestowed upon the senior citizens, Camilo stressed that the local government is doing its best to foster the population of its elderly.
“Tanan gyud importansya ug pag-abi-abi gihatag sa atong mga katiguwangan,” she said.
