By Lou Ellen Antonio

ILIGAN CITY (PIA)--The local government here with the support of the Department of Health (DOH) started the inoculation of children aged 5 to 11 (Resbakuna Kids) against the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) at the Adventist Medical Center.

During the launching ceremony, Mayor Celso Regencia underscored the importance of vaccination for the kids. He hoped that the parents will not hesitate to get their children vaccinated and encouraged them to not believe in misinformation about vaccines.

“Kini nga mga kalihukan dako kaayo ang tabang sa atong mga bata labi na kay wala sila gagawas na. Mahinaot ko na unta magdasig ang mga ginikanan na mudala sa ilang anak kay dili angay mahadlok,” he said.

[This initiative is a huge help to our kids especially since they no longer go out. I hope that parents will be encouraged to take their children [to vaccination sites] because they do not have to be afraid of it [vaccines.]]

The city mayor also expressed gratitude for the support of the Adventist Medical Center. He said that the vaccination site is strategic especially if there are adverse effects, it can be immediately treated in the hospital.

Meanwhile, DOH Region 10 Director Jose Llacuna thanked the members of the Philippine Pediatric Society for being with them in the vaccination campaign and assured the parents that the vaccines for the children are safe and effective.

A total of 57, 480 children are set to be vaccinated in the City. Another rollout will take place at the Robinsons Place Iligan on Feb. 18. (LELA/PIA Iligan)
