ILIGAN CITY (PIA)--A pediatrician here and a mother to a six-year old kid who recently got vaccinated against the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID19) said the vaccines are safe for kids.

“This [vaccination] is being spearheaded by the government. It is free. It is safe. It is proven safe for adults, for those who are 12 and 18 years old,” said Katerine Ramos a pediatrician who hails from Brgy. Tubod.

Ramos also encouraged the parents not to hesitate to have their kids vaccinated since the amount of vaccine that is being given to children aged 5 to 11 is computed and is appropriate for them.

As a pediatrician, Ramos emphasized that vaccination for kids is important not only to protect themselves but also to protect those who are immunocompromised.

“To all parents out there, as a pediatrician, I encourage all of you to have your children vaccinated not only for the safety of your own children but for others who are not able to be vaccinated, those who are immunocompromised or unable to go to the hospital because of present conditions,” she said.

Ramos also shared that her kid named Mithi is aware that she and her husband are exposed to patients who are probably infected or suspected COVID-19 since they are both doctors.

According to her, they watched news every day about COVID-19 and explain to their child the impacts of effects of the disease for those unvaccinated and emphasized that vaccination is a way of protecting oneself.

“It is our way of telling her na she has to protect herself so that she’ll be more free to go out to different places and she will be prepared to back to school,” she said. (LELA/ PIA Iligan)
