ILIGAN CITY (PIA) – During the kick-off of vaccination for children aged 5 to 11 at Adventist Medical Center here, pediatricians reminded the parents to monitor their children weeks after vaccination.

Doctors of Kids in Iligan president Judy Ababa-Manginsay said parents should monitor their children one to two weeks after their vaccination so that if there are adverse effects, they can be treated immediately.

“Kinahanglan na magmonitor sa atong anak one to two weeks after vaccination para kung naay mga grabe o serious side effect, matagaan nato ug alibyo,” she said.

[We need to monitor our child one to two weeks after vaccination so that if there are any serious side effects, they can be immediately relieved from it.]

Manginsay said that the development of a child should not remain stagnant as it is already two years since they have not go out since the start of the pandemic. According to her, parents should see to it that the experiences of their children for the first five years of their life should not affect their life in the future.

Meanwhile, Philippine Pediatric Society North Central Mindanao chapter president Amelita Maria Hamoy highlighted that parents should not let their kids play or undergo other activities one week after their vaccination to avoid having adverse reactions.

“Kung pwede one week after vaccination wala activity ang bata. Kalma lang siya. Dili nato pwede ipadula-dula ang bata after vaccination. Everytime na naa sila gibati, they have to report kay apil sya sa monitoring sa atong vaccination,” she said.

[If possible, one week after vaccination, the child will have no activity. He/she must remain calm. They cannot play after vaccination. Every time they feel something, parents should report because it is involved in monitoring for our vaccination, ”she said.

Hamoy said that parents should nurture their children mentally and emotionally as they need to grow normally with the new normal situation. (LELA/ PIA Iligan City)
